An Idea For Civil Disobedience/Obedience
Anyone who reads my blog regularly, wait wait wait...I'm sorry, that last statement presupposes that I have more than one regular reader. But, unfortunately, my brothers, friends and girlfriend are only occasional readers. I guess those who are closest to me get their fill of my, admittedly at times, eccentric tendencies without having to refer to a blog. I would also like to formally thank that one person who's name rhymes with bitch who visits this blog almost as regularly as myself. My friend Mitch, I am grateful for the time we shared, and look forward to seeing you soon. You have inspired me in many ways and I apologize for not saying this earlier. You are anything but a bitch. Now we can move onto the idea, what all of my constituents (constituent) have been faithfully waiting for...
Civil Disobedience, perhaps the most powerful tool of any concerned citizen. It is our weapon, our provably effective means to "take the power back." So the question I posed to myself was what constrains our citizenship greatest in this country? In other words, what structures exist to dissuade us from making our government serve its citizens? Embedded within this question is the assumption that global hegemony, murder, thievery, deceit, ideology used to mask the pursuit of wealth and power, anti-intellectualism (as we are called not to analyze and evaluate our government through careful logical research and arguments), demonizing of other nations, fierce individualism that stratifies our society, the rape of OUR earth, and oppression are not inherently necessary, but diametrically opposed to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. So how can we subvert a system that constantly obfuscates its adopted nature? What can we, as citizens, do as citizens? Well, we can do a lot of things as citizens. We can refuse to follow the laws, stage demonstrations, assemble and organize, petition, not pay taxes, and a myriad of other actions. There is also the option of a violent revolution. We can distribute guns, create a dissident army, and destroy political structures and disassemble infrastructures. But revolution carries the price of blood. And other subversive actions will take so much stamina because the fight is one that will be long. However, the fight is not to change the government but to wake those acquiescent minds to what WE have become. Furthermore, reveal how that becoming has impeded the becoming of so many peoples in this country and across the globe. So I come to the task of subversion and social transformation with disillusion. I am an American but that does not mean I am a patriot; I am not. But I do desire this state to exist for its people, and exist in servitude for all peoples. The solution is not to establish citizenship in a country I find more attractive (Venezuela) but to transform the country that I, by birth, am a citizen of. So with that incomplete preface, I will describe now what led me to my current idea.
If you read a passport (an inherently interesting document, think for a moment about all that is presupposed in the administration of this identification and furthermore how that administration interacts with the global community) you will find many regulations. One of which I will cite from page four and five:
8. LOSS OF U.S. CITIZENSHIP: Under certain circumstances, you may lose your U.S. citizenship by performing, voluntarily and with the intention of relinquishing U.S. citizenship, any of the following acts:...(5) formally renouncing U.S. citizenship before a U.S. consular officer overseas.
Interesting. This means that an individual can secede from his country if he/she so chooses. The act is described as a deliberate renunciation. No paperwork, no prison, no flogging; one simply ceases to hold citizenship with his/her country. It follows logically that that person would no longer be under U.S. jurisdiction. This is stated within the context of visiting a foreign country, but what if that person were to perform the same action within the U.S.. What would happen then? Perhaps that person would be deported somewhere, or would have to apply for citizenship in another country. But what if many disillusioned citizens performed this action as a coordinated effort? What would be done? What if, included in a formal renunciation, all legal documents pertaining to U.S. citizenship were surrendered? What if a citizen decided to cease being a citizen of the U.S. government? And what if this decision is predicated on the belief that our government no longer serves its citizens and that this renunciation is a reactionary physical act, not a symbol, systemic of the current government? On a large scale this would render the government obsolete to these individuals. We already have the power, essentially it was never lost; we do not have to take it back but rather exercise it. The people rule, we have always ruled; we have simply chosen not to enforce our rule. We pay the bills, pave the streets, build the schools, and work the fields; the country is ours and it we maintain it, in good and bad climates. However, currently, something has hijacked our will, our lives, our money, our inalienable rights. The national government has taken what cannot, by definition, be taken. So let us give them their only means of control: citizenship. We will retain our innate citizenship to this land, to this society of people, but will render their control of it obsolete. Citizenship is our greatest enemy. Citizenship compels us, at a very primal level, to serve and assimilate to the governing body. If the government wants to hold onto us so very badly, let them. Let them hold to what is theirs. Your license is owned by the state, your passport is owned by the state, simply give it back. This action of civil disobedience is essentially an act of obedience as it returns to the state its own property. And we take control of what is essentially ours.
I do realize the problematic nature of such an action and the risk it poses to the individual. But consider carefully what is lost in this action compared to the loss of inaction. Think what we can do through such a discrete, but calamitous, affirmation of our essential personhood. Which do you desire?
The following is rhythmic prose meant to be read for its aesthetic and seditious qualities.
A Gentle Warning To Those Who Sit Tight In Bleached Column Fortress Heights:
Lasso lacing the neck, numbers printed on the back, veiled noose circles the pack. Hand in what's handed down, circumvent the knot clandestine. React to the numbing cataract, combat the structure of discontent. Numbers beget numbers running down your lumbar till they protract through the vein to under the fingernail. Tear down the veil, despite the gale, despite the tales, to spite swollen white fucking males. Licking the thumb of the fist in the air, tides change if we corral the moon, it is the satellite around us it looms. Rust and puss for your elliptical club. Dust and mistrust for your factional lust of global stratisfaction. We've nothing to take back but everything to give back. Have your identififucktion, your pussport, your social mercury pore, and your birth discordation. Sickened with our righteous indignation, watch as we piss on your twisted rights of the federation. Caked shit on your face from the cuddle session with the green we used to orifice clean. The distaste into manifestation will linger long after our finished seditious plan of renunciation. Your blood will lay in your veins even after we complete the insurrection giving you to contemplate your identification to the faith that drives our resurrection. You can ignore the charge from one Head of State to heed the call of the sublime Divine, but when we break your line as we consign your vanes to the cabinets built across this land, you'll know then of your mistake to forsake that which was used to manipulate. Our rock is rolling to de-throne your reign controlling, our constitution unerring, your malformation disclosing, our rights reclaiming, your name defaming, our love unfolding, your stain declassifieding. Our lands, our homes, our inheritance lost in unholy oppressing enforced complacency now recovering through multitudinous malefactors with mettle raging and love blazing.
With Love,
The Oppressed People Of Our Nation

Excellent.
The United States comprises large organizations - corporations, bureaucracies, "interest groups," and the like - which are conspiratorial by nature. That is, they are hierarchical, their important decisions are made in secret by a few key decision-makers, and they are not above lying about their activities. Such is the nature of organizational behavior. "Conspiracy," in this key sense, is a way of life around the globe.
Anyone who has lived in a repressive society knows that official manipulation of the truth occurs daily. But societies have their many and their few. In all times and all places, it is the few who rule, and the few who exert dominant influence over what we may call official culture. - All elites take care to manipulate public information to maintain existing structures of power. It's an old game.
America is nominally a republic and free society, but in reality an empire and oligarchy, vaguely aware of its own oppression, within and without. I have used the term "national security state" to describe its structures of power. It is a convenient way to express the military and intelligence communities, as well as the worlds that feed upon them, such as defense contractors and other underground, nebulous entities. Its fundamental traits are secrecy, wealth, independence, power, and duplicity.

Thought it might be worth mentioning that this government previously considered giving itself the power to strip citizens of citizenship:

I don't think those in power would be much affected by people voluntarily doing what had been considered as something to forcibly subject them to.

A formal coordination of this idea is imperative and immediately necessary. Brilliant way with words, good sir. I salute you.

I think we're only waking up now to find out who really runs our government. Wait until we march into the Sudan and Iran. Muslims will sense that Ariel Sharon's dream of a final solution to the Islamic problem is about to become a reality and go crazy fighting for their lives.
Will it matter over here? I doubt it because by then we'll likely be under martial law from the next conveniently timed 9-11.
8:54 AM
I think Pre Emptive Martial Law would collapse under its own weight in the USA! After spending a few days scared in their houses, I think you would find an alliance of right/left, a rebel alliance. Then when the police and troops refuse to shoot their friends and family, they can open the gates so we can bring the Republicans and Democrats and Newswhores to swift justice! Fluff up the feather pillows and heat up the tar, They can put me on all the god damned lists they want I'm not a terrorist, just a very angry US Citizen who has the right to bring down the govenrment if they turn TYRANNICAL!

I think a renunciation of citizenship will buy you a stay at the new "Halliburton Hotels" they are building. You've seen this, right? 21st century concentration camps MADE IN USA.
I just watched the movie "Ghandi" over the weekend. The themes were as relevent right here in our own country.
10:16 AM
I expect no such actions from Americans. I do not expect any action of any significant kind until after you attack Iran and by then Peak Oil will kick shift into gear and begin starving us and you can't organize a revolt unless you have energy to spare and you won't ... none of us will.
What I'm trying to say is, don't get your hopes up. The revolution will come of course, it always does, but this time will be like most other times in human history:
First you suffer, then you revolt.
You are still plump, relatively free and far better off than the rest of us. Thus, you will not rebel.
Simple, disgusting human nature.

From "Cactus",
If it can serve as a consolation, you at not alone,I mean as a country, UK and Australia, the America's miny-me's are right behind (the Coalition of the Willing).
I was just reading that the UK has built on Cyprus their own Halliburton Hotels, Mediteranean style. As for Australia there are lots of multy-purpose conc. camps allready, built for asylum seakers in the middle of nowhere, if need to be.
Otherwise the state of affairs is very simmilar.
You are mistaken in belief that your Government is actually an American Government. It is a Neo-con-Zionist Israeli Leach Government which captured by long and careful planning the America's wealth and human resources in order to protect Israel and achieve Zionist domination over the world, in the long run.
Read the neo-con's manifeso's and you will see that point by point they are acting according to them.

Only one thing is wrong with your arguement, and it is imperative that everyone, ESPECIALLY the government understand this. The fact that you post this article and yet say you are not patriotic is hypocrasy. You, me, and everyone else "awake" are the only patriots this country has right now. The "sheep" are no patriots by any sense of the word. Anyone backing Bush right now would have you believe these thoughts are unpatriotic. Untrue, I say. These thoughts we have are the essence of patriotism. These thoughts may save our country if they ever materialize into action.
Keep up the resistance. REVOLT!
2:29 PM
To clarify the my use of the word patriot...
I understand patriotism as Tolstoy defines it as the idea that one sees one country as more desirable instead as simply the country of residence. Patriotism in all forms I believe leads to a cultrual hegemony. I do not associate myself with the term as I feel it contributes to an unhealthy love of country inconducive to love of all peoples.

But I'm a get along kinda guy, not a fierce individualist. I like to herd, to be part of a great and glorious group.
That former paragraph was a joke as you'll find out if you visit my blog.
I expect I made a point.
Now to business.
You should also file a declaration of your renunciation of citizenship along with related documents (pussport, etc)with your county recorder to put it all on record. Most should do it. If you can't find one to do it, you should be able to find another who will.
You want to stop the tax thieves, go here or find another way. Many are opening.
Check out the Republic of Conch passports. They're even recognized in some countries.
Now you might want to read this (first chapter) for another fine way to handle power freaks.
This fierce individualist says one at a time, eschewing the group think.
They'll never see it coming when we each do it our own way.

Ahh. I see you got a little bit of a response. Now you're famous. Maybe even Chomsky will read your blog. It is an interesting idea. But what are the details. What would it really mean or not mean and what are the repercussions (not just personally but corporately or even to the world). Is this an idea, a theory, something fun to write about? Or something you are actively pursuing?
BTW Thanks for the props.
